Welcome to Part 2 of our homeowner tips blog series. This blog covers questions pertaining to the functions of your handheld remote. Let’s jump in!

Getting Started

There are many features and benefits that come with your mini-split system’s remote. Let’s look at common questions pertaining to your handheld remote.

How do I add or change the batteries in my heat pump remote?

Your remote is powered by two AAA batteries. When you are getting started, ensure you have fresh batteries in your remote. To do this, simply pull down the front cover until the batteries are exposed. From there, insert your new batteries in the spaces provided. You want to make sure that you press the “Reset” button once your batteries have been placed in your remote.

How do I change the temperature on my ductless heat pump?

Mitsubishi handheld remotes use infrared technology. This means for your system to “hear” the command of the remote, the remote needs to be pointing at the unit itself. The remote does not detect temperature itself, so feel free to move throughout the room with your remote. Make sure your unit responds with a beep each time you click a button on the remote control, indicating that it “heard” your request. If you don’t hear the beep, you may be too far away, not within line of sight, or you may need new batteries.

Operating your Remote

Operating your remote is simple once you understand the display screen and the functions of each button. Look at the display screen on your remote. You will find the mode, fan speed, vane position, set temperature, and clock icons. These are the functions that you have control of, based on the buttons you push on your remote. To start, look at the two arrows on your remote. To adjust the temperature on your mini-split system, simply press the arrow pointing up for a higher temperature, or the arrow pointing down for a lower temperature. Press one of the arrows until you have reached your desired set temperature.

How do I change to heat mode or AC mode on my ductless heat pump remote control?

To change the mode of your system, press the Mode button. You have the option to select one of four different modes. These modes include Auto, Cool, Dry, and Heat. To cycle through the various modes, press the button repeatedly until you find your desired mode.

How do I change the fan speed on my ductless heat pump remote control?

To the right of the Mode button, you will find the Fan button. This button will allow you to change the fan speed or remain on auto. The Vane position button is a more commonly used button. This can be set to blow out and up into a room or down. Like the fan, the vane position can be set to auto mode, or you can manually select your desired angle.

What is the vane in my ductless heat pump and what does it mean to change the position of the vane?

A vane determines the angle that the warm or cool air flows into a space. When a homeowner changes the vane position, the angle that the warm or cool air is currently blowing from will change. The Vane button on your remote can be set to blow out and up into the room, or down. There are also vane auto mode and oscillate mode options. The oscillate mode will tell the vane to move up and down for an even distribution of air throughout the room.
