Wanting to ensure year-round comfort, allow the owner remote control of the heating and cooling system, and reduce fire risks, the owners recently upgraded the home’s heating system with a ductless heat pump, making island stays even more enjoyable year-round. Situation

Owners of a cottage-turned-VRBO on South Whidbey sought a solution they could control remotely to ensure guest comfort in both summer heat and winter chill. Knowing IDHP’s work ethic and outstanding solutions, they were certain they wanted to work with IDHP.

Challenge

The owners of a June Beach Cottage faced challenges with an outdated heating system that was both expensive and a fire hazard. In summer, the windows trapped heat, making the cottage 
uncomfortably warm at night, while in winter, poor airflow left the bedroom cold and uninviting. The owner’s needed a more efficient way to ensure reliable climate control and comfort for their guests.

Solution

The customer needed the cottage ready for guests by mid-May. They requested service from IDHP in April, and by the time guests arrived, the heat pump and Cove heater for the small bedroom were installed. IDHP completed the full installation and pump-down process in three days, ensuring the system was fully operational.

Results

Installing ductless heat pumps reduced the owner’s heating and cooling costs by 50%, eliminated fire hazards by replacing outdated wall heaters, and improved air quality — especially during smoke events — while also enabling remote climate control. The Cove heater helped stabilize bedroom temperatures, ensuring guest comfort, especially on chilly winter nights.
