The Island Ductless Difference

May 20, 2019

I have always been intrigued by the evolution of technology and the impact that we, as humans, have on the environment. The knowledge we encompass and the capabilities we possess have the ability to better our communities and positively impact the environment for generations to come. In 2010, following the recession, which had a big impact on my woodworking business, I learned of and was intrigued by ductless heat pump technology. I was previously working in a career designing premium custom-made furniture. While I was a dedicated and fulfilled craftsman, I had been doing that work for 35 years, and it was no longer sustaining me financially.

The fact was that this amazing heat pump technology would offer a sustainable future for our environment and an opportunity for me to promote this technology in my community. I started researching all I could about ductless heat pumps. I was instantly captivated. I wanted and needed to know more, which led to my decision to enroll in college HVAC courses to expand my knowledge. With a background in physics, I found myself quickly completing every HVAC course available. It’s a positive sign when course work leaves you motivated and excited. Once I earned my HVAC Technician Certificate, I continued to expand my education with factory training at Mitsubishi Electric, attending their training and certification for residential and commercial installations and service. Upon completion, I ventured into the community to share my knowledge with others and make a positive impact through my new business, Island Ductless Heat Pumps (IDHP).

IDHP was built on community-centered, individually tailored, and environmentally friendly values. Quantity and best price were never the top priorities; rather, our goal is to provide long-lasting, quality products and service. From installation to maintenance and repair, IDHP is there for the customer every step of the way. I believe this is the IDHP difference. True, honest quality never disappoints. Quality products paired with quality services provide positive outcomes. At IDHP, we use highly rated Mitsubishi ductless mini-split heat pump systems. These systems are some of the top-rated systems on the market, using the most premium parts and are among the most energy efficient and ecologically friendly systems available. Homeowners can look forward to saving up to 60% on monthly utility bills after installation. Nothing compares to the level of comfort that ductless mini-split systems provide year-round. We want this for our community. Mitsubishi Electric offers the opportunity for HVAC contractors like IDHP to take part in their Diamond Contractor program. This program essentially ensures that contractors are up to date on new technologies, use the best installation practices, and use the best available equipment. It is important for me to be a part of this program, so I can meet with my customers knowing I am providing them with the most current information and products.

Here’s how we work: We start with a thorough evaluation of each customer’s needs, a complete and thorough heat-loss calculation on each project, and a comprehensive bid, including all the associated costs, possible options, and applicable rebates and incentives. Once a bid is accepted, we provide a customer-friendly installation using only the best products, the job is electrically wired by a local electrician, and we return to start up the heat pump and train the client in its use. We don’t stop at top-quality installation—each customer receives a 2-to-5‒year labor warranty, free first-year maintenance, and options for discounts on an ongoing maintenance plan. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff is available to help you adjust to the use of this amazing equipment, and we have a trained service staff to follow up with problems should they occur. We provide a 360-degree wrap-around service for our clients.

IDHP is community centered, focusing solely on Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands for a variety of reasons. I built a life on Whidbey and want to give back. For 30+ years, I have been able to call this beautiful island home. Raising my children on Whidbey was a gift. Not many have the opportunity to experience daily life as we do here. Breathing in the fresh ocean air coming off Puget Sound was and still is the norm. The stunning views while driving to the grocery store or to the ferry dock are often only seen through paintings or photos. Our community provides endless support for each other, as well as lifelong friendships. We at IDHP want to give back to our community and do our part to protect the environment that has been so gracious to us. Every heating and cooling solution we design is custom tailored to meet the individual needs of the customer. We want our solutions to be installed correctly the first time, leaving our customers completely satisfied. We not only want to give back with our services, but with our support as well. It is a joy to sponsor local events and community activities. From theater projects to community initiatives, community support will always be at our core.

IDHP is family owned and operated. Upon meeting with us, we do our research to pass on the greatest savings by including any rebates and/or incentives on products or services. When we walk away from an installation knowing our customers are satisfied and will experience year-round comfort while saving money on utility bills and positively impacting the environment, we know we just made the ductless difference.
